Leicestershire apparatus finals gives gymnasts the chance to medal on each piece, for level 6 their overall championships take place later on in the year.
We had two gymnasts compete in this competition, Ella Wileman and Amelie Poulton. The girls started on vault performing a flat back handspring. They both performed the vault well keeping tight throughout.
Moving to bars Ella was first and the routine consists of both a both a bottom and high bar routine, Ella linked her routine with high casts and nailed her landing, then onto the high bar she showed her control and her strength throughout the conditioning section. Amelie had a small wait before her routine which started off lovely, however an extremely high cast gave her a bit too much momentum which did make her over rotate her backhip circle however it did not phase her and she finished her bottom bar routine with just a small wobble. Up on the high bar like Ella, Amelie showed her strength and control throughout keeping her feet glued together.
Moving onto beam, both girls beam routines consisted of leaps spins and a cartwheel. Amelie started off her routine with solid jumps and a breeze of a spin however come to grief with her cartwheel falling off however she shook it off and finished off her routine nailing her landing of her dismount. Ella was last on beam so had a little wait before she had to go however she shined on the beam with only a few wobbles here and there, she took her time for her cartwheel and it paid off ! Sticking her cartwheel was a big moment for Ella giving her extra confidence to finish off her routine even with a smile on her face and nailing her landing on her dismount was the icing on the cake for her.
Finally onto floor, this is the piece where both girls shine as they dance through their routines with grace and dynamic moves Amelie showed off her flexibility in her leaps and a solid round off into cartwheel. She smiled throughout the routine which showed she enjoyed doing it too. Ella gave her round off flick its first début on the floor today which she did with power as well giving a high stretch jump at the end ! Ella also showed off her dance lifting her head throughout and showing off beautiful leaps.
Both girls did fabulously for their first county competition Ella picked up a medal on each piece one of each colour and an extra silver for good measure and Amelie made it in the top 11 on each piece !
