National Grades National Finals

Last weekend (17/5/2014) we had 3 gymnasts competing in Birmingham for their national finals.. Sophie Winfield, Mae Wilkinson and Madison Jurkowski.

Mae and Madison both competed in the same team for National grade 8 and both had a really good day, they started on Vault which they both performed absolutely stunning vaults scoring well. Moving onto bars the girls were both trying to reach as many handstand points as they could throughout the routine which they did try very hard at producing clean routines off both of them. Beam is most gymnasts nightmare pieces, Madison performed strongly nailing landings with strong leaps, Mae produced a clean routine with no falls but was a bit wobbly here and there. Moving onto floor Mae showed off her dancing skills and strong tumbles and delivered a lovely floor routine. Madison floor routine did shine but had a slight loss of body tension throughout her handstand full turn however finished off her routine with a smile. A massive well done girls.

Sophie was competing in National 6 going through a clean beam routine was a great start for Sophie with minimal wobbles throughout her routine. Her floor routine had a great sparkle to it however she did come to grief on her straight front after fighting hard to stay up unfortunately put her hand down but did not let that get to her and finished off her routine. Moving to vault she produced a high tuck back and nailed the landing off the two blocks. On bars she had a nice fluid routine and got through it without any hesitations. All in all this was a brilliant competition for Sophie in her first National finals.

A massive well done to coaches Karen Edwards and Katie Steele
