County Championships AA and IA

Our county championships this year was held on the 8th June at New College we had over 30 gymnasts entered into this competition which just shows how much we are growing as a club having gymnasts in every level which is even better.

Level 5

We had a large amount of gymnasts in the level 5 category, in the in age, out of age. For the out of age competition we had Maisie Axton, Victoria Greeves, Megan Braithwaite, Lucy Robson, Eve Milburn, Jessica Pole, Harriot Richmond, Bethan Dodds, Nicola Preece and Madeline Wall. Some of these girls were in different age categories however were working off the same rules. On the vault the girls either performed a handspring flat back on a block with crash mats or a handspring over the vault at a desired height depending on the age/height of the gymnasts. All the girls competed well on this piece and throughout the age groups the medals we received for this piece was 1 gold 1 silver and 2 bronze which is brilliant for the girls especially as this was some of the girls first competition for us.

On bars the girls will compete a routine with upward circle or they have the opportunity to go for the bonus if they complete the routine with an upstart. A few of our girls did compete their routines with upstarts which was great for them. All bar routines went smoothly for the girls and with that we received 3 medals! 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.

Beam is always a shaky piece of apparatus for all gymnasts and a lot of our gymnasts were competing their backward element of a backward walkover which has a fear factor to it. Also some gymnasts were doing somersault dismounts which can always be seen to being tricky as well. However our girls shined on this piece of apparatus a few minor mistakes however they did not let it phase them and everyone come off smiling which is always a good sign. We picked up 3 medals for this piece 2 gold and 1 silver which was a brilliant result for the girls.

Floor is always a show stopping piece of apparatus and for a lot of our girls they were showcasing their new floor routines which for a coach can always be a bit nerve racking making sure the gymnasts are going in the right direction on the floor and make sure they are doing what they should be. There was no mistakes made on the floor which was excellent for all girls and all tumbles were completed with dynamics and style. For floor the girls picked up 5 medals between them showing that their floors were really up to scratch. 3 gold and 2 silver which was excellent. This was also the first competition for Victoria as apart of our club and she performed really well.

For the in age category we only had one competitor which was Evie Axton. This was her second competition outside of the gym so is new to the competition scene for vault Evie performed a handspring to stand on a block and a crash mat which is difficult for her age group and was the only gymnast to compete that particular vault in her category Evie received gold for her vault.

On bars Evie performed the same routine as some of the other girls and was showing off her newly learnt upstarts on both bottom bar and high bar which was a good boost for her. Evie received silver for this piece.

On beam Evie’s routine aimed for 3 bonus’ throughout which were a full spin, flick and a cartwheel tuck back dismount which she did with ease and a stuck beam routine also allowed Evie to get bronze for her beam.

On floor Evie had a new combination of handsprings to put in her routine which she did with power, along with her round off flick and nice leaps throughout she really sparkled on this piece and she placed first giving her another gold for her collection.

A massive well done for all of the level 5 competitors !

Level 5+

Level 5+ is a fairly new level which has been going for 4 years now and gives the gymnast that in between level between level 5 and level 4.

For this competition we had a competition we had a lots of gymnasts taking part again within their different age groups. We had Lottie Pinchess, Isabel Morgan, Hannah Knox, Maisy Gardner, Sophie Lees, Nicole Riley, Scarlett Sharpe, Hannah McNamara and Emily Price. This level allows the gymnast to do skills which are not allowed to be performed at level 5. All of the girls went for the handspring vault which showed the power that the girls had even down to our smallest competitors ! All the girls performed strong and solid vaults, and throughout the age groups we brought back 5 medals for this piece. 2 gold and 3 silver which was a brilliant result.

On the bars all gymnasts went with the upstart routine but were trying to get the extra marks for a high casts which a few of our gymnasts did receive which was really good for the girls boosting up their scores. For bars this was one of our strongest pieces bringing back 6 medals over the age groups showing that the upstarts and high casts were worth all the extra hard work. 1 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze which was a brilliant outcome for the girls.

Beam again is a wobbly piece and some girls were competing their flicks which is a great accomplishment within itself. We also received a lot of clean beam routines which is always a good positive thing for the gymnasts, there was a couple of falls throughout however it did not phase the gymnasts and they all got up and carried on. Again we received 6 medals for this piece of apparatus. 2 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze.

Finally moving on the floor where the girls love to shine and again like the level 5′s a lot of new routines were performed with lots of somersaults from the different girls whether it was forwards, backwards or both ! The judges certainly enjoyed watching the routines as all the girls danced so well throughout. This was our strongest piece of the group receiving 7 medals which was brilliant for the girls. 3 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze. All the girls had a really good competition and it was a good first competition for one of our latest members Isabel Morgan! Well done girls

Level 4

We had girls in two different age groups for this competition however the same rule apply regardless to the age of the gymnast. We had Abi Barham, Eden Dickens, Daisy Greeves, Hannah Betts, Julia Allford, Dalila Watson and Holly Howard in this level.

Starting on vault we had a mixture of different vaults either handspring, half on half off or half on full off all starting with different start values. All girls landed their vaults well with minor steps on landing which gives the girls a strong score each. For this piece we received 3 medals over the age groups, 2 gold and 1 bronze which is a great start for the girls as there was a variation of vaults to contend with.

For bars all girls competed a clean bar routine getting through smoothly working on straight legs throughout their routines. For level 4 the girls are not allowed to do a straddle on undershoot and have to put a turn on the end making the landing slightly more difficult however it did not phase any of these girls. Again we received 3 medals for this piece 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.

Beam after a shaky warm up Eden showed the judges what she was made of and performed her flick in her routine for the first time which was brilliant for her. Hannah linked her backward walkover flick for the first time and stuck it which was amazing for her as well. Some girls did make a few mistakes however they all achieved a personal goal whether it was competing something for the first time or sticking their routine. For beam we received 4 medals! 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze which was a really good result for the girls.

Moving on to floor and again new floor routines to show case and all the girls did really well performing new tumbles for the first time, some girls performed 2 new tumble runs in their floor routine which was brilliant for the gymnasts and coaches seeing that the girls confidently did what they knew they could do. For floor the girls received 4 medals 2 gold 1 silver and 1 bronze

For level 4,3,2 and FIG it was all around competition as well. All the girls did extremely well.

For individual all around medal we received 2 gold and 2 silver

All of the girls placed really well and Hannah was awarded the overall level 4 champion over the different age groups.

Level 3

For Level 3 we had different age categories for out of age and 2 gymnasts working on the in age system. Madison Newell, Jodie Morgan, Emily Pike, Danielle Wattie, Chloe Pepper, Jessica Davie, Madison Jurkowski, Mae Wilkinson.

For vault we had a variety of vaults girls were preforming either a half on half off, half on full off or for the in age girls they preformed a half on to stand on a stack of mats. All girls competed their vaults well for some of the girls this was their first time of preforming such vaults and they did it with ease. For this piece of apparatus the girls as a group received 6 medals, 2 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze

On bars some of the girls were trying out new routines and some did go to plan and some had a few small hiccups along the way however rather then letting it get to the girls they carried on without an issue. The girls bar routines were consisting of giants, short clears and some backaways showing they difference between the level 4 and level 3 girls. The 2 in age gymnasts were working on a single bar where the other girls were working on both bars. The girls received 5 medals for this piece of apparatus 2 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze which was a great result for the girls.

On beam some of the girls were trying out new skills and they did indeed pull them off, Madison Newell had a very exciting routine with a free cartwheel and a tuck back in it which wowed the crowd. Jodie linked her flick flick without a wobble which was a great start for them, the in age 3 girls got through their routines without much of a wobble the other girls did come to slight grief on certain skills however showed how mature they were when getting up and carrying on. Not only that some of the girls competed the skills in which they find challenging which was good for them also. For beam throughout the age groups the girls received 5 medals, 2 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze. Well done girls

Finally moving on to floor, four of the girls had new routines to show off, as well as Jodie making her debut for Coalville, all of the girls danced really well throughout their routines packing in the skills of twisting tumbles forwards and backwards as well as double somersault runs. Throughout the routines the girls have to show off dance elements being leaps jumps and spins. All girls preformed very well on the floor and their preparation showed throughout the skills.  For floor the girls gained another 5 medals, 2 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze

All the girls did extrememly well and for the individual all around we received 5 medals 2 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze, Jodie Morgan also received the overall level 3 champions which was brilliant for her.

Level 2

For level 2 we had 2 gymnasts within the different age categories Sophie Winfield and Charlotte Abell.

For vault each girl competed a different vault Sophie competed a half on half off, where Charlotte competed her Tsuk which she did successfully. Both girls showed their power when vaulting Charlotte received a silver for this piece which was a really good start.

On beam both girls did a solid performance with neither of them falling which is always a bonus for this piece with Sophie competing her twisting dismount with only a small step on her landing. Charlotte danced throughout her beam routine making it flow throughout the routine. Sophie received a gold for her beam performance. Charlotte received a silver for her routine as well which was brilliant for both girls.

On the bars Charlotte was trying 2 new skills within her bar routine working on her toe on toe off on the low bar as well as her full twist backaway dismount unfortunately her toe on toe off did not work for her however she did not let it shake her and nailed her dismount. Sophie got through her routine cleanly with a nice clear circle on bottom bar, and nailed her dismount this gave Sophie a gold on this piece of apparatus.

On floor Charlotte was performing her new floor routine with a new tumble as well, as well as Sophie performing her 1 1/2 twist both girls danced really well throughout their routines, and performed their dance series nicely both girls got a medal on this piece Sophie got gold and Charlotte got bronze.

The girls both placed individually as well Sophie came first, and Charlotte came second. Well done girls

FIG

We only had one competitor in this section, she is one of our most experienced competitors Ebony Birt.

For vault Ebony performed a pike tsuk and landed with only a step backwards giving her the bronze medal this was a good piece for Ebony.

Ebony’s bar routine was very clean consisting of a short clear, sole circle, giants and a backaway with a stuck landing put a smile on Ebony’s face and a silver medal around her neck. Well done Ebony !

On beam Ebony danced really well showing off her gorgeous leaps and jumps in her routine however after fighting hard unfortunately fell off on her tuck back salto however got up and finished her routine with a cartwheel full twist dismount which was at a rocketing height ! This routine give Ebony a bronze medal.

Finally on to floor where Ebony wows the crowd with her dancing and over all floor presence, Ebony has both difficult tumbles as well as difficult turning leaps which she pulled off brilliantly with a forward full twist and a double back twist she wowed the judges as well as the crowd and was given gold for this routine.

Ebony place over all was second, which is brilliant for Ebony with a very good competition behind her.

On a whole we brought back a total of 101 medals which is an absolutely amazing result for Coalville gymnasts and coaches! Well done girls !
