Regional Club Teams 2014

The regional club teams were held on the 15th June this year at new college Leicester. Our squad has been expanding over the past year meaning our girls have had to fight for their places in the teams. The junior team was working off level 3 rules and the senior team was working off the level 2 rules.

Juniors

Our junior team consisted of Emily Pike, Jodie Morgan, Julia Allford, Abigail Barham and Daisy Greeves.

The girls started on floor, Abi danced her way through her routine with her powerful front salto walkout into tuck back and a sky high straight front as her last tumble into a stag jump to style out her landing. Abi also produced gorgeous leaps and spin throughout her routine giving a strong routine for the team. Daisy performed her routine her balletic dance routine certainly does get the attention of the audience. Daisy got through both of her tumbles which consisted of a front walkout into tuck back and a very nice straight back also. Jodie went through her routine beautifully, showing her power in her straight front full twist filling her twisting requirement and her straight front with only the smallest hop on landing. Jodie also showed her flexibility in her dance series of leaps and her two different spins on the floor. Emily went up next showing off her new tumble of a 1 1/2 twist and landed it without a flicker which is a great start for her floor routine. She also produced nice leaps and two more powerful tumbles finishing off with her straight front and her unique dance of a shoulder cartwheel. Julia went through her routine with no flickers throughout showing a nice front walkout into salto and a powerful straight back as a final tumble, she also went through her dance series with a controlled landing on her turning leap.

The girls them moved on to vault, all girls were competing at the vault height of 120cm and the girls did performed a variety of two vaults throughout the team. Abi did a half on half off with good height and only a small step on landing, Emily worked hard on keeping her feet together throughout her vault landing her half on half off with only a small step. Daisy also performed a half on half off working on her speed in order to complete the vault. Jodie performed a half on full off with only a small step on landing this was a good vault for Jodie. Julia performed the same vault working on her height and landing trying not to take a step she worked hard and only too a small step on landing.

Moving on to bars which is always a very quick piece, Abi performed a beautiful routine with nice straight legs throughout and a solid straddle on half turn dismount. Jodie performed a nice solid routine with a short clear and a sole circle on the low bar as well as a nice straight backaway dismount. Julia was performing her giants for the first time into a backaway this was a very nerve racking moment for Julia however got through her routine with only a small step on landing, this was a great achievement for Julia. Emily went through her routine with a short clear on low bar and good shape giants into backaway on the high bar with only a small step on landing as well this was a good routine for Emily. Daisy went through a clean routine on bars working hard on keeping her legs straight throughout and nailing her straddle on undershoot half turn was a good ending to the bar rotation.

Finally moving onto beam, Abi went through a clean routine, with a beautiful backward walkover and solid leaps throughout Abi showed off her artistic side along the beam and with a solid dismount this was a good routine for her. Daisy went through her routines with only a few wobbles, and sticking her flick was a big achievement for her. Jodie linked her flick flick for the second week running, and showed good splits in her leap series however did come to grief on her split leap change, however she did not let it bother her and got up and performed a nice and high cartwheel tuck back dismount. Emily went through her routine with a strong start however after sticking it in warm up she fell off her flick flick which was unfortunate, however she got back up and showed what she was made of finishing her routine with a good round off tuck back. Julia went up last performing good skills throughout sticking both of her flicks with only small wobbles was a good routine for Julia and a good end to the competition. Well done girls !

Seniors

Our senior team consisted of Ebony Birt, Charlotte Abell, Sophie Winfield, Danielle Wattie and Chloe Pepper.

Starting on the shaky piece of beam Sophie started first with a controlled mount and solid skills throughout, she also performed her high leg spin for the first time in competition and managed to hold the landing. As well as good leaps throughout Sophie finished off with a beautiful round off full twist dismount. Chloe’s routine did start with a small mistake however she shook it off straight away and went through the rest of her routine showing good leaps and a solid spin, she also competed a beautiful flick and finished off with a strong dismount. Ebony showed off her flexibility in her leaps and jumps and a nice high leg spin, she also performed a standing tuck back and fought very hard for her landing which showed her determination to stay on the beam, she finished with a nice and high cartwheel full twist dismount finishing a nice routine for Ebony. Charlotte went through her routine with minimal wobbles throughout showing off her leaps and spins with ease. With a solid landing on her flick it set her up nicely just to finish off with her dismount of a round off tuck back. Danielle went through a clean routine with small wobbles throughout, and performed a strong flick in her routine, she had a point to prove with her dismount after last week and she did so with just a small step on landing this was a good piece for the girls.

Moving on to floor Chloe showed a very graceful routine with her powerful tumbles and nice leaps throughout, she finished her routine with a nice and high full twist and with a beautifully danced routine she had a nice sparkle throughout. Sophie went through her routine with re arranged tumbles putting her hardest tumble of a 1 1/2 twist to the last tumbling pass. Sophie went through her routine bouncing through her tumbles and saved enough energy for her last tumble landing it with ease. Charlotte went through her routine with nice dance throughout Charlotte performed 2 powerful tumbles finishing with her full twist which she did nicely and s lovely end to her routine. Ebony’s routine always looks beautifully danced, with her first tumble of a front walkout into a twist this gave ebony a good bonus to start. She also performs difficult turning leaps throughout her routine. Her final tumble did not end as planned however she showed her maturity of a gymnast and finished off her routine. Danielle went through her routine competing her full twist for only the second time and did it with only a small step on landing which was a good start for her. She continued her routine with good leaps and a good final tumble of her front wallkout into tuck back. This was a good piece for the girls.

On vault there was a variation of 3 different vaults within the team, half on half off, tuck tsuk and a pike tsuk for vault it is the best of two vaults that score goes forward. Danielle performed 2 half on half offs with only small steps on landing which was a good start for the group. Charlotte performed 2 tuck tsuks, after a dramatic ending in her first one she certainly nailed her second one in the centre of the landing mat. Ebony was performing her pike tsuk, her first vault didnt go to plan however her second one there was not a foot movement at all really making a point with her vault. Chloe performed 2 half on half offs and after falling on her first one her second one definitely stuck with only a small step. This was an eventful piece however all the girls did what they needed to do.

Bars was the girls final piece. Danielle went through a clean routine with 2 giants and a backaway which was a good start for the team. Sophie went through a clean routine also with a short clear on the bottom bar and a nailed dismount. Ebony showed off her style on bars with a nice clear to handstand on bottom bar, a sole circle and 2 giants into another nailed landing. Charlotte went through her routine with grit and determination after her short clear into mo shoot and kept her routine going and finished with a full twist dismount which is is fairly new for her with only a small step on landing this was a good routine for charlotte. Chloe went next to try out her giant routine unfortunately they did not work for her and she made the decision to get back up and dismount.

This was a good competition for the team and the girls got bronze. Well done to all gymnasts and coaches.
