Regional’s 2014

In the morning round we had 3 gymnasts in the in age competition, Evie Axton, Isabel Morgan and Madison Jurkowski.

Level 5

This was Evie’s first voluntary regional levels competition however she looked confident from the start. She started on bars performing both an upstart on bottom bar and an upstart on the high bar she has been working really hard at keeping her legs straight throughout her routine, although she had a slight stop on bottom bar it was a good start for Evie.

Moving onto the dreaded beam, Evie was working on the highest start value possible having in harder skills such as a flick, full spin and a cartwheel tuck back dismount. With only having slight wobbles throughout the routine Evie did stick her beam routine with ease!

Onto floor now Evie was showing off her powerhouse tumbles, she was competing her newly learnt round off flick tuck back, only going from a jump she shot up really high and unfortunately stumbled backwards she tried extremely hard to stay on her feet but unfortunately fell however this was a good experience for her being so young of getting up and carrying on which she did beautifully showing off good leaps and a powerful second tumble.

Moving on to vault Evie performed the handspring to stand on the vault block and did very nicely working hard on keeping her legs straight and arms to her ears this was a good ending for Evie’s competition.

Evie come 1st in her competition out of 31 which was a brilliant performance for her well done Evie and coach Jemma.

Level 4

We had Isabel in this level if she was to place in the top 4 she would go down to national finals representing the East Midlands in Guildford in November.

Starting on bars like Evie, Isabel went through a clean bar routine hitting high casts throughout her routine and beautiful straight legs through-out, Isabel went through a lovely clean routine and nailed her landing.

Then moving to beam, Isabel was slightly nervous about this piece but we wasn’t sure why! She looked confident throughout the whole of her beam routine with no wobbles in sight. She also nailed her dreaded beam combination of a backward walkover flick which takes control and skill in order to keep it straight and on the beam. As well as beautiful leaps on the beam she finished off with a sky high cartwheel tuck back. It was a beautiful routine performed by Isabel.

On to floor, Isabel was showing off two new tumbles, her front salto walkout into tuck back and her straight back which she did with ease, showing off her floor routine with over splits in her leaps it really was impressive, with some unique choreography Isabel really did stand out on the floor and sparkled throughout the whole of the routine.

Finally moving on to vault which has been a troublesome area for Isabel however she only needed one vault and she certainly made sure it counted performing the half on to flat on vault she showed power and dynamics through the vault finishing off her competition on a high.

Isabel placed 3rd giving her a place in the East Midlands national final team which is such an achievement for Isabel and coach Karen ! Well done Izzy.

Level 3

We had a seasoned competitor Madison Jurkowski in this level, like Isabel fighting for a place in the East Midlands national team in November knowing she had to place in the top 4 to make it.

Starting on bars Madison was performing a new routine consisting of a short clear to handstand which is an extremely hard skill relying on strength and timing in order to hit the skill. Unfortunately she opened out slightly early meaning she fell over the top however she quickly brushed herself off got back up and finished off a beautiful bar routine with nice shaped giants and a gorgeous high backaway to finish.

Moving on to beam Madison was nervous about this piece as she had a tricky combination of flick flick so after some wise words from her coaches she got up and performed a clean beam routine! This was an achievement in itself for Madison conquering her fears and nailing that flick flick. She finished off her routine with a lovely round off straight back dismount and a big smile too.

On to floor Madison showed off her powerhouse tumbles as always, sky high full twist to start off the routine which she nailed with only a slight step on landing. Showing off a new leap combination as well her floor routine was danced well throughout and finishing off with a nice double salto run Madison really did wow the crowed with her routine.

Moving on to vault like Isabel she only had to performed one vault which she chose the half on option pushing off high from the vault in good shape to a fall back to back was just what she needed to do in order to score high and she did. This was a great competition for Madison.

Madison placed 3rd giving her a place in the East Midlands regional team! Well done Madison and coaches Karen and Katie.

Moving on to the afternoons competition we had more girls competing, Ebony Birt, Charlotte Abell, Sophie Winfield, Jessica Davie, Danielle Wattie, Chloe Pepper, Jodie Morgan, Madison Newell and Emily Pike.

OA Level 3 all ages

For open age level 3 we had 6 competitors which were split 3 and 3 for the different age groups. Jessica Davie, Danielle Wattie and Chloe Pepper were working at 13+ and Madison Newell, Jodie Morgan and Emily Pike were working at 11/12 age group.

Starting on the vault, Madison was competing her half on full off for the first time which she did with ease nailing her first one straight away. Jodie also competed the full off vault which she did with only a small step back. Emily competed her half on half off and tried to control her power with a small step forward it was a good start for the girls. Danielle performed a half on half off with only a small step on landing. Chloe competed the same vault as well with just having a small step on landing and Jessica competed the same vault nailing the landing it was a good piece to start on and a very confident one also.

Moving on to bars, Emily went through her routine with a beautiful short clear to handstand on the bottom bar, not quite making her handstand on the high bar she had to work hard at her giants which are newly learnt in the straddle position. Madison went through a clean bar routine hitting her short clear on the bottom bar and then nailing her handstand on the high bar like Emily was performing her straddle giants for the first time and did it with ease. Jodie was working hard on her bar routine all week performing a short clear on the low bar and then worked really hard to hit her handstand on the high bar but unfortunately with fighting hard she just over cooked it, however brushed herself off got back on the bar and performed her giants in straddle position for the first time in a long time for her, and a first time for her at Coalville. Danielle went through a clean bar routine performing her giants and working hard to hit her handstand on the high bar with a nice backaway dismount this was a good routine for Danielle. Jessica went through a clean bar routine her giants are still in working progress in the straddle position so she is hoping to compete them again soon, however not a flicker on the dismount this was a very well performed routine for her. Chloe did start off her routine lovely however come to grief with her giants which was a real shame as she had been working so hard on them in the gym however she did compose herself for the rest of the day before moving round which showed her experience as a gymnast.

Moving on to beam, Emily went through a CLEAN beam routine for anyone who knows Emily this was a massive achievement for her performing her flick flick linked as well as a flick to two this was a great performance for Emily! Madison went up next performing a beautiful straddle lever to split handstand mount was a good start for her as well as nice leaps her flick flick landed without a stutter, unfortunately she did experience a fall on her full spin however got back up to perform a standing tuck back with only a small wobble and a new round off full twist dismount which was done brilliantly. Jodie up on the beam and was solid as a rock competing a new dance series of a spin into a leap which is really tricky to control and she did it. Also performing a stuck flick flick Jodie went through a solid routine with not many marks to give away a nice cartwheel tuck back dismount to finish off was a good routine for her. Danielle got up on beam and showed everyone that she can stick it going through solidly from start to finish including her flick, nice leap series and a spin then finishing with a solid dismount this was a great routine for Danielle. Jess did experience a few falls throughout her routine which was a shame for her as we were all willing her to shake off her nerves however it wasn’t for her on that routine however she knew she had to compose herself for her next piece. Chloe went through her routine with elegance and grace however did come to grief with some falls throughout however did shake them off with a nice leap series and a solid dismount Chloe like Jess knew she had a point to prove on the next piece.

Moving on to their final piece of floor Madison went first performing her new 1 and a half twist for the first time plus a hop full going through a nicely dance routine performing good leaps and a stunning straight front as well this was a good ending for her competition. Jodie went through her powerhouse tumbles of a straight front full twist and a new double salto run of straight front punch front to finish which she did with ease this was a beautiful routine for Jodie to finish on knowing this piece can be tricky for her at times she definitely didn’t show that! Emily nick named the pocket rocket showed why, a sky high 1 and a half twist to open her floor routine and nicely danced throughout her other 2 tumbles were as powerful and as nice as the first, finishing with a smile finished her routine off lovely. Danielle has been struggling with an arm injury which has hindered her backward tumbling practice in the gym however after a tumble was working for her she changed back to a straight back full twist and looked like she had never had time away from it, she danced well and produced the best leaps she has ever done this was a really good routine for Danielle. Chloe was competing her newly learnt 1 and a half twist as her opening tumble and she did it with force with just a small step forward this was a brilliant achievement for Chloe and the confidence then shone throughout the rest of the performance really dancing her way through the routine.  Jess went through a clean routine with powerful tumbles and good leaps performing her new routine which she has only competed a few times however she is really starting to get to know her dance and it is showing throughout her routine. This was a good routine for Jess to finish on.

Emily placed 2nd AA 3rd on beam and 3rd on bars
Madison placed 6th AA and 1st on beam
Jodie placed 13th AA and 2nd on floor
Danielle placed 10th AA and 1st on beam
Chloe placed 28th AA
Jessica placed 30th AA

Well done girls and coaches Jemma and Steve

OA level 2 all ages

For this competition we had Charlotte Abell competing in the 14+ category and Sophie Winfield competing in the 12/13 age group category.

Starting on vault sophie performed 2 different vaults a half on half off and a newly learnt half on full off she did both vaults well with only a few steps on landing which was a great start for her. Charlotte performed 2 tucked tsuks with the best of both going towards her score she nailed one with only a small step which was a good start for her also.

Moving onto bars this has been troublesome for Sophie over the weeks with the short clear to handstand as i mentioned earlier it is all about strength and timing and getting that timing has been tricky for her, however as the competition started she nailed it into two nicely shaped giants and a nice tight backaway. Charlotte has a lot of tricky skills within her bar routine and unfortunately come to grief on her toe on to handstand out of her short clear to handstand however brushed herself off and carried on with her mo shoot and a twisting backaway to finish this was a good routine apart from the fall for charlotte.

Onto beam both girls had a good warm up and Sophie went through her routine with slight wobbles however kept her feet on the beam which is an excellent achievement for all gymnasts after some tricky leaps she only had her dismount to finish which she did with absolute ease a very confident round off and punched out of the beam into her twist this was a good routine for Soph, Charlotte started off strongly however did come to grief with her flick however brushed herself off and carried on with her routine finishing off with a round off tuck back dismount which she did confidently which isn’t something she is a fan of however she punched the beam with her feet giving a nice high controlled tuck back dismount this was a good beam session for the girls.

Moving onto floor, Sophie had a new tumble to perform which was her straight front full twist but before that she had a tricky one and a half to stick first which she did and danced her way to the end before her straight front full she took a deep breath in a ran with power landing it without a flicker this was brilliant for Sophie and a good end to the competition for her. Charlotte was performing a newly learnt handspring straight front full twist which has been troublesome for her however she landed it ! this was brilliant for charlotte which gave her a smile throughout the rest of her Spanish routine dancing her way through it with strong leaps as well this was a good finish for Charlotte.

Sophie placed 2nd AA 2nd on beam and 2nd on bars
Charlotte placed 7th AA and 3rd on floor

Well done gymnasts and coach Karen

Junior Challenge FIG

We only had one competitor in this category which was Ebony Birt.

Starting on vault Ebony performed two vaults a pike tsuk which she nailed and a nice and controlled half on half off which she only took a step on, this was a good start to the competition for her.

Moving on to bars, Ebony is working hard at keeping it tidy, starting off with a nice short clear to handstand and worked her way up to the high bar to produce giants into backaway this was a nice clean bar routine for Ebony and a good second piece.

Onto beam Ebony had a new dismount in the bag which she was keeping under wraps! Going through her routine which consisted of a tuck back different leaps and a high leg spin it was all for her straight front full twist dismount which she needed a powerful run for and a good punch off the beam … she nailed it! You could see the delight of Ebony and coaches and what it meant to her to stick that dismount. This was a brilliantly clean routine for Ebony well done!

Onto floor, Ebony was about to perform a double back for the first time in 2 years and she was making a point with this double back and she did she corrected herself from previous performances and not even a flicker of a foot movement from her this was an amazing achievement for her and her coach and such a landmark move so a brilliant start to her floor routine. She then finished off with tricky turning leaps and a straight front full twist with sassy dance this was definitely a memorable routine produced by Ebony well done it was beautiful.

Ebony placed 3rd AA 2nd vault 1st beam and 1st on floor!

Well done Ebony and coach Karen
