2014 Round Up

Another year has passed once again ever so quickly, however here at Coalville it truly has been an extremely successful year for gymnasts and coaches.

Throughout the year the success does not just come from the competition results, however what is done in the gym session in session out. Some moves the girls might start to achieve in training can take over a year to put it to the competition floor.

Every single gymnast has achieved something new this year whether it is a big skill or a smaller skill they all mean something to the gymnasts and coaches which work hard in order to make them work.

2014 has welcomed in some new members to Coalville Gymnastics increasing our squad even more in both competition squad and county squad. Our recreational classes and pre school are constantly growing making our recreational waiting list up to 2 years long!

We have also had a couple of our helpers become assistant coaches this year extending on our coaching team all of which play a massive part whether it being with recreational, disabilities and or development we are so happy that they are apart of our team.

However on a sad farewell note we have lost a few of our older gymnasts from competition squad and county squad. Although they no longer train some of them are still in the gym and are wanting to become apart of our coaching team working towards their first qualification. We also said goodbye to Laura Hewitt who got her dream job of being a Personal Trainer in a gym situated in Nottingham, it is never a good bye with Laura as she tries to pop in when she can and give the girls some conditioning exercises or two. We wish Laura all the best in her new adventure.

Early success, the first competition of the year was grades there are 3 different route of grade which are regional, national and compulsory. National and compulsory give gymnasts the opportunity to go down to national finals if they are to place in the top 4. All of the girls did their best and even brought back some medals, we had 3 gymnasts participate in the national finals which were held in Birmingham. Sophie Winfield, Mae Wilkinson and Madison Jurkowski the girls represented the East Midlands and did Coalville proud.

The Leicestershire apparatus finals and AA finals for levels is always highly successful for Coalville bringing home a sea of medals each time. This year not only did every gymnast receive at least one medal we received over 100 medals in one day! This was an absolutely amazing result for the girls showing us that they can pick up medals on all pieces. This competition was defiantly a highlight to the year. We had many champions on different pieces of apparatus and all around champions.

For the first time this year Coalville ventured out of the UK and travelled over to Malta to compete in a friendly international for this event to take place all members had to get together and find ways to fund raise for the gymnasts to go. This consisted of bake sales, bag packing, boot sales and more. After months and months we did it! This gave the gymnasts the opportunity to compete in a new surrounding meet gymnasts from all over and most importantly have a new understanding of the word team. The girls had a podium training on the Friday, then they competed on the Saturday or the Sunday depending on the level they were entered into, and on the Monday we went as a club to the Malta water park before coming home on the Tuesday. This was a great experience for the girls whether it was the first time away from parents or the first time on a plane it was a brilliant time away for all the girls.

In August we had some outside celebrations as our Miss Steele became Mrs Foster Katie tied the knot with Mark. We at Coalville gave her unique gifts and an amazing banner :) we hope you have a very happy future together!

September brought a sad good bye to Jessica Woolerton as she left for her uni in Birmingham training to become a nurse however she will not be gone for long as she will be back throughout the holidays, we wish Jess the best of luck at uni.

The regional championships again like grades does give in age gymnasts the chance to make national finals if they are to come within the top 4 in the East Midlands for levels 4 and 3. Level 5 does not get the opportunity to go to national finals as the requirements for the level vary from region to region. For in age Evie Axton won level 5, Isabel Morgan came 3rd AA for level 4 and Madison Jurkowski also came 3rd AA for level 3 meaning that Isabel and Madison were set to go to Guildford in November for national finals.
Out of age in regional’s gives the girls chance to medal individually all around and on individual apparatus. This gave the girls a lot of opportunities to get some medals and that they did. We had regional champions on floor, beam, and bars and we also got some individual AA medals too the competition was also the first of many for Ebony Birt sticking her very hard tumble of a double back salto on floor this is an amazing achievement for her and coaches. For Coalville this was a very successful day showing the East Midlands that we are growing as a club.

Our club championships showed success once again always being an all day competition showing all competitive gymnasts at the club as well as our development gymnasts showing off where every gymnast has to start with the basics. This is a nice friendly competition for the girls and shows the younger gymnasts how competitions run and also shows them what they can achieve if they keep working hard as they get to see what the older gymnasts are able to do.

The national finals showed to be great experiences for both Isabel and Madison both doing their best and enjoying the competition the girls did Coalville proud once again and both were great members of the East Midlands team.

We had 6 gymnasts selected for the inter-county regional teams this year for the juniors Madison Newell, Emily Pike, Jodie Morgan and Mae Wilkinson. For the seniors we had Ebony Birt and Sophie Winfield. All girls participated to their team immensely securing both gold medals! This was an amazing result for Coalville and Hinckley and Burbage.

On a whole we have had a very successful year and we hope 2015 brings the same with our 007 year gymnasts being able to compete regionally for the first time ! Keep working hard gymnasts.

We would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year ! look out for our updates throughout the next year ! oxo
