Grades National Finals Stoke-On-Trent 2016

This year we had 5 girls compete in national finals for both sides of grades, compulsory and national grades. The competitions took place 2 weekends apart with the compulsory national finals first followed by the national grade finals a few weeks later.

 Ruby Smith  Compulsory 4

Compulsory 4 seen Ruby Smith compete in her first national finals along side team mates from Notts and Robin Hood gymnastics club. The girls started on beam after an uncharacteristic fall on her mount Ruby continued to go through her beam routine with only slight wobbles, making sure her leaps and connections counted. Next was onto the floor where she preformed her routine with only small glitches throughout. Onto range Ruby showed great strength and control throughout getting through the routine with ease. Next onto vault which Ruby had previously fell on in qualifications Ruby sprinted down that vault run proving she wasn’t going to make the same mistake twice and she didn’t nailing a superb vault scoring the second highest in the team. Finally onto bars, this showed to be problematic for Ruby in qualifications however she corrected all of her mistakes gaining an extra 6.7 marks on bars! This helped Ruby place 39th out of 51 gymnasts, well done Ruby

 Evie  Compulsory 3

Compulsory 3 saw Evie Axton compete for the East Midlands for the second time. However this was her first grades national finals competing along side gymnasts from Robin Hood, the team was a member down after an injury earlier in the week meaning all of the girls scores were to count towards the team total. Starting on beam Evie started shaky but managed to improve on her leaps from qualifications which was one of her main aims however experienced a fall throughout one of her connections. This did not phase her as she got back up and finished off her routine with a strong dismount. Moving on to floor Evie really tried hard on her dance and controlling her power throughout her tumbles which she did finding her feet each time. Range and Conditioning was next showing strength and determination Evie went through the routine only missing one hold throughout a very tricky routine which was great for her she even improved on her score from qualifiers by over a mark giving her a personal best. Onto vault this is one of Evies favoured pieces showing her power and dynamics throughout and producing a fabulous vault. Onto bars this had been problematic for Evie trying to work hard on getting through her routine she fell on her clear to handstand however got up and finished her routine with a nice giant into backaway. Evie placed 52nd out of 54. Well done Evie

 Alia  National 4

National 4 showed Alia Disu in her first ever national finals after having a fabulous regional championships she was feeling confident with her routines. Starting on beam Alia showed a very confident routine with very little wobbles and just a small hop on landing. Onto floor Alia really danced her way through her routine showing she can be powerful and flexible throughout. Onto Range and Conditioning Alia started off her routine with a very uncharacteristic wobble however did not let her phase her and pushed through her routine holding the rest of her moves where she should. Moving onto vault Alia needed to show her power which she did performing a nice handspring over the vault at a height which nearly matched her own! Finally onto bars Alia showed a nice clean routine only being slightly short on her handstand made the routine look a breeze. Alia placed 38th out of 50. Well done Alia.

 Daisy  National 3

National 3 showed Daisy Greeves in her first national final being a team member after the previous year making the team reserve. Starting on beam Daisy had a shaky start experiencing a couple of falls throughout the routine however manged to shake them off and finish with a nice dismount. Onto floor Daisy showed her power throughout her tumbles working in forwards and backwards directions as well as showing flexibility throughout her leaps, this was a good second piece for her. Moving onto range Daisy showed a slight struggle with one of the holds however held it together throughout performing a very nice controlled routine. Moving onto vault Daisy did s sky high half keeping a nice body shape throughout. Finally onto bars Daisy went through clean showing a good handstand which she had been improving throughout her training sessions and it paid off nailing her backaway dismount. Daisy placed 46th out of 50, well done Daisy.

 Mae  National 2

National 2 showed Mae Wilkinson being no stranger to the national floor Mae was feeling confident for the competition. On beam Mae showed her composure throughout her routine and even saved herself from a fall which many others would not be able to, so although a slight scare on beam a clean beam for her. Onto floor Mae dazzled the crowed with her dance and tumbles showing power and control throughout the routine, always putting her personality into it. Onto Range Mae shows her strength and control working on all of her holds throughout the routine. Onto vault Mae performed the half on cut through which she did holding a nice straight shape throughout which is desired. Onto bars Mae swung the bars well going though a nice clean routine with a solid dismount. Mae placed 35th out of 49, well done Mae
