Regional Championships 2016

This years regional championships was very busy for Coalville Gymnastics Club, covering all in age levels along with out of age 3,2 and FIG Espoir, Junior and Senior- In age level 4 and 3 gymnasts have the chance to qualify for national finals if making the top 4 within the competition placing 5th will allow the gymnasts to travel down to national finals and be the reserve for the team.

Please note throughout this write up there is no scores or placements- Placements have been highlighted if placed on the podium all around or made a national final team a full set of results can be found on the results website :)

 Mia Axton  Mia Axton – In Age Level 5-
This was Mia’s second regional competition of the year after competing in compulsory level 5 earlier in the year. Starting on vault Mia performed the most difficult of the two vaults with the handspring to stand with only a small step on landing this was a good start for her. Onto the bars Mia has been working really hard on linking her bar routine together and it has paid off, showcasing her upstart for the first time and a big cast on the high bar this was a clean routine for her. Moving onto beam always known as a nervous piece for most Mia started off this routine with confidence landing her full spin with only a small wobble she came to grief with her backward walkover missing her feet however she did not let it phase her jumping up and carrying on her routine finishing off with a nice cartwheel tuck back. Moving on to floor and following in her big sisters footsteps she produced a very powerful floor with a sky high tuck back for the first time in competition. With beautiful leaps and dance elements this was a good competition for Mia.
 Olivia  Olivia Harris – In Age Level 5 -
This for Olivia was her second regional competition as well after competing in the compulsory grades earlier this year. Starting on vault going for the highest difficulty again without a movement on landing this was a beautiful vault for Olivia. Moving onto bars like Mia Olivia has been working hard on linking her bar routine with not only one upstart but two! She went through a beautiful routine completely linked and extremely tidy, this was a good routine for Olivia. Moving onto beam Olivia did show her nerves on this piece having a couple of falls during the routine however she got to compete her full spin and cartwheel tuck back dismount for the first time which is great to see. Moving on to floor Olivia had to forget about what had happened on beam to make sure her floor was at her best, she danced her way through showing off her newly learnt round off flick tuck back which she did so very well. Well done Olivia
 Brogan  Brogan Hardwick – In Age Level 4 -
Starting the competition on bars Brogan competed a clean routine which has been troublesome for her in training however she showed that persistence pays off and she competed it well. Moving on to beam Brogan showed complete confidence throughout the routine with only small wobbles on skills however she nailed her backward walkover flick without a flicker, finishing off with a round off tuck back dismount this was a great routine for Brogan. Onto floor Brogan got to showcase her new two sommersalt run within her floor routine which she did really well dancing her way through the routine really showing off her personality. Finally on to vault Brogan has worked really hard on improving her power and it showed she compete a lovely half on drop back to finish off her competition. Brogan did finish 2nd meaning she has made the level 4 East Midlands team for national finals which take place in November at Guildford Spectrum. Well done Brogan.
 charley  Charley Kirk – In Age Level 4 -
Charley started off on her strongest piece as she loves swinging the bars she competed a neat routine linking throughout and worked hard on keeping her legs together and toes pointed. Moving onto beam which has been troublesome for her when training Charley experienced a fall in warm up which would of shook anybody however Charley showed her grit and determination and got up and carried on. In her routine she didn’t manage to link her acro series however she stayed on even after the fall which was brilliant for her. Onto floor like Brogan, Charley got to showcase her two sommersalt series which she did with power and height, finishing off with a lovely straight front this was a good routine for Charley. Finally onto vault Charley got to show off her power producing a lovely half on fall back. Charley had a clean competition allowing her to finish in 5th place meaning she is the travelling reserve for the East Midlands level 4 team so she will be joining Brogan down Guildford in November. Well done Charley
 Ruby Smith  Ruby Smith – In Age Level 4 -
Ruby had a bumpy start letting her nerves get to her however she showed what she was made of, put her guards on and she was ready to go. Bars has been troublesome for Ruby in training so she has had to work extra hard on the routine to make it though and she did extremely well, this was a good start for Ruby. Moving on to beam Ruby had a shaky warm up and it unfortunately showed during her routine experiencing a couple of falls she got up and finished what she started just showing what it takes to be a gymnast. Moving on to floor Ruby has been working hard on improving her height in her tumbling and it showed completely nailing both her tumbles well. Finally onto vault Ruby has been working on her power and she produced a lovely half on drop back. Well done Ruby
 Evie  Evie Axton – In Age Level 3-
Starting on bars Evie produced a clean routine after having a couple of falls in previous sessions Evie didn’t let it phase her made her clear into giants and stuck the landing this was a good start for Evie. Moving on to beam Evie has struggled with some of the requirements needed and unfortunately it didn’t work at the competition however she did not let it ruin her routine making it to the end without a fall was good to see her push past her frustration. Moving on to floor Evie get’s to show of her power producing 3 clean tumbles and nice leaps this was a good piece for her. Finally onto Evie’s strongest piece of vault performing the highest difficulty Evie had less that 1 mark in deductions competing her yurchenko fall back this was a great end to her competition. Evie placed 2nd meaning she has made the East Midlands team for level 3 which will take place in November along side Brogan and Charley in the Guildford Spectrum. Well done Evie.
 Abi  Abi Barham – Out Of Age Level 3 -
Starting on bars Abi got to showcase her mo-shoot for the first time in competition working out of it into her giants and dismount, she unfortunately missed her feet for the dismount however her experienced showed thought on her feet and worked out of it so she could dismount keeping the routine going this was brilliant for Abi. Moving on to beam Abi went through a clean routine showing her fears who is boss landing her backward walkover and finishing off with a new free round off dismount this was a good routine for Abi. Moving onto floor Abi produced a very well presented floor routine and nailed her straight front full twist tumble which was a good end for her. Onto vault Abi performed a clean half on full off with only a small step on her landing finishing off the competition for her. Well done Abi
 Lottie 2  Lottie Pinchess – Out Of Age Level 3-
Starting on bars Lottie is well known in the gym for her good bar skills and she showed it in her routine showing beautiful shapes throughout her routine and a beautiful clear to handstand this was a great start for Lottie. Moving onto beam this is not one of Lotties favoured pieces however she did not let it show only having small wobbles throughout her routine she finished off with a new dismount of a free round off. Onto floor Lottie has been working on a new tumble of a straight front full twist and she was extremely close to landing it in her routine however it didn’t quite work she shook it off and carried on her routine like nothing happened. Showing lovely spins and leaps throughout this was a nice routine for her. Finally onto the vault Lottie has been working on perfecting her half on full off and it showed in the competition only a small step on landing this was a good competition for her. Well done Lottie.
 Julia  Julia Allford – Out Of Age Level 3 -
Starting on bars Julia had recently changed her routine as certain elements was not working so need a bit more time before competing them Julia went through a clean routine with a stuck landing. Onto beam Julia showed elegance throughout her routine with different flicks and good leaps, she stayed on her beam and landed her dismount this was a good routine for her. Moving on to floor Julia go to show a new tumble and new leap series at this competition nailing her straight front full twist and showing good splits throughout her leap series this was a brilliant routine for her. Finally onto vault Julia was performing her half on full off vault she couldn’t find her feet on her first vault however she corrected what she did wrong and stuck the second vault with only a small step. Well done Julia.
 Madison j  Madison Jurkowski – Out Of Age Level 2-
Starting on vault Madison was facing some of her old competition demons performing a tuck tsuk. Madison has been working extremely hard on this in the gym and it showed nailing not one but two tsuks this was a really good boost for Madison and a great start to her competition. Moving onto bars after recently changing her bar routine while other elements are being worked Madison performed a clean routine hitting handstand on the high bar and showing off a beautiful backaway dismount this was a good clean routine for her. Onto the beam Madison had an uncharacteristic fall on her mount which did frustrate her however showing her experience she did not let it phase her getting on with the rest of her routine with only small corrections and nailing her tuck back apart from the small blip at the beginning this was a great routine for her. Finally onto floor Madison got to show off how powerful she was competing a new tumble run of a front walkout into full twist and finishing on a 1 1/2 twist this shows great stamina to finish on this tumble. Madison finished 2nd all around. Well done Madison.
 Mae  Mae Wilkinson – Out Of Age Level 2 -
Starting on vault Mae performed two very clean half on full off vaults giving the judges not a lot to deduct from, this was a good start for Mae. Moving onto bars this is a good piece for Mae who shows good lines throughout her routines she performed a lovely routine slightly short on her cast to handstand into a beautiful short clear to handstand into giants and a stuck dismount. Moving on to beam Mae started off a bit wobbly with some of her skills however kept it completely under control sticking her free cartwheel with only a small adjustment finishing off with a nice tuck back dismount this was a clean routine for Mae sticking it where it would of been easy just to drop off. Finally onto floor Mae always puts on a show when it comes to floor really expressing herself through her dance, starting off with nice spins she showed her power throughout her tumbles nailing them both this was a good competition for Mae, well done.
 emily Pike  Emily Pike – FIG Espoir-
Starting on vault Emily was performing two different tsuk’s a pike and a tuck at this level performing two different vaults allows the gymnast to be entered for the vault final of the competition. She nailed both tsuks with only a small adjustment on landing this was a good start for Emily. Moving onto bars Emily produced a clean and tidy routine just being slightly short on some of her handstands she made it through with a nailed landing. Onto the beam Emily started off confidently showing off a new leap series with only a small wobble, however Emily did unfortunately experience 2 falls on skills that would not normally give her any problems this was a shame for Emily however she shook it off and finished with a nice straight front dismount. Finally onto floor Emily gets to show what she is made of, showing powerful tumbles consisting of a double twist, straight front and straight front full twist it is packed with difficulty and she performed it well. This was a good day for Emily. Well done.
Sophie W Sophie Winfield – FIG Junior-
Starting on vault Sophie was performing her tsuk for the first time which she did so well landing completely upright this was a good first vault for her, like Emily to be entered for the vault finals Sophie had to perform two vaults with a tuck tsuk being her first vault she performed a half on full off for her second vault with only a step on landing this was a good start for Sophie. Moving on to bars, Sophie went through a clean routine with a clear on the low bar and finished her routine with a new dismount of a full twisting backaway, she did this with no movement on the landing either this was a great routine for Sophie. Onto beam Sophie performed a clean routine with a tuck back in the routine a skill which caused her some grief in training she showed no fear in her routine nailing it and finished off with a cartwheel full twist dismount. Moving onto floor after problems with her feet Sophie is finding her way back into her tumbling performing a full twist in both directions and sassy dance throughout Sophie had a great competition. Well done Sophie.
Ebony Ebony Birt – FIG Senior-
Starting on vault Ebony produced a fabulous pike tsuk for her first vault and to be entered into the vault final she competed a clean half on half off with fabulous height from the vault this was a great start for Ebony. Moving onto bars Ebony has been working hard on getting through her routines after some time away from the gym and finally the hard work has paid off for her completing a routine with a short clear to handstand on the low bar and giants into dismount on the high bar with was a great routine for Ebony. Moving onto beam this is one of Ebony’s favourite pieces and it shows throughout showing off beautiful leaps and a nailed standing tuck back she unfortunately experienced a fall on her free cartwheel and although she was frustrated she carried on her routine with a strong straight back dismount. Finally onto floor Ebony brings a good presence to the floor with experience and grace Ebony produces massive leaps throughout her routine along with a full twist and finishes with a double twist this was a fabulous routine for her. Well done Ebony.
