In this years down syndrome competition Coalville were delighted to have 4 competitors in the competition, this is the highest number of competitors we have entered at this competition. All gymnasts main coach is Rachel, along with many assistants that all work so hard to get the children ready for the competition.
Lottie Pinchess and Lucy Robson was at the competition and was kind enough to report back to me about the days events.
The mornings competition showed Emily, Lily and Grace.
Emily competed on vault and beam, Lily competed on vault, beam and bars and Grace competed on all apparatus being vault, bars, beam and floor.
Emily had two good vaults which consisted of a tuck jump and a star jump being able to hold the landings is key and she did just that. While on the beam Emily showed great concentration throughout her routine and held her balance really well, unfortunately experienced two falls, this however did not phase her and she carried on brilliantly. This was Emily’s first competition and Rachel could not have been happier with her.
Lily did vault first and performed the same vaults as Emily, so she produced a tuck jump and a star jump both jumps were executed nicely and well landed. On beam Lily produced a very nice beam routine and showed confidence however like Emily also experienced two falls. With this being Lily’s first competition as well it was good to see her get up and carry on. Again Rachel showed that she was ecstatic with the performance from Lily.
Grace did the same vaults as Lily and Emily performing a tuck jump and a star jump she presented to the judges with confidence before both vaults. On beam Grace showed everyone how much hard work she has put into this piece concentrating well and staying on throughout the routine this showed at the presentation as she got a silver medal which was fantastic. Her bars went smoothly and she remembered everything she had to do for it. Finally floor Grace had yet again another new floor routine to remember and perform. This was a different floor routine to what she performed at her grades earlier on Grace really excels at floor and shows her personality her floor routine gave her a well deserved bronze medal. Grace is one of Rachel’s more experienced competitors and showed on the competition day.
Toby competed in the afternoon competition just competing on the vault producing two very nice vaults just like the girls Rachel was over the moon as it was his first competition and he did not let it phase him which was brilliant.
The day could not have gone smoother for our down syndrome gymnasts and Coalville as a club could not have been happier for them and their performances.
