Following on from the grades competition that happened in March, Coalville had the most gymnasts they have had representing the East Midlands down at national finals which took place at Cocksmoore woods in Birmingham.
From national 7 we has Sophie Winfield who made reserve for the team, this was a brilliant experience for Sophie as it was her first taste of National finals and being able to warm up with the team and use the apparatus gave her a rush and made her want to be in the team more than anything!
For national 5, Layla Joachim made the team with Ebony Birt being reserve, however due to injury with another member of the team Ebony was placed in the team on the Friday giving her only one session before national finals. This was slightly un-nerving for Ebony however having been reserve in previous years she knew what to expect when down there. Unfortunately both Ebony and Layla did experience falls on beam and bars however did not let it phase them and performed beautiful vaults and floor routines.
Compulsory 4, Mae Wilkinson made the team for compulsory 4 and for her first experience of national finals she shone throughout taking it all in her stride and performed beautiful routines on all pieces. Mae loved the experience of being down there and got the taste for what it is like being down there making her want to do it more.
Compulsory 3, Madison Newell was made reserve at regional’s however a week before the national finals a team member got injured putting Madison in the team. Madison had been practising her routines following regional’s incase of this situation so she was prepared. However a few days before the competition Madison went to the doctors and was told she had tonsillitis this was a big shame for her however she was determined to compete and not let the team down, having only one fall on her range and conditioning she had a clean day.
A massive well done to all gymnasts that made it down to finals and to their coaches who got them ready for the competition. We hope to see you all in another final with some more gymnasts
