Regional Championships 2013

This years regional championships proved to be very popular with a large amount of entries from different clubs around the region. As mentioned before regionals is the chance for the top 4 in IA level 4 and 3 to go down to nationals representing East Midlands in Guildford in November. This was exciting for Coalville as we had gymnasts in both categories. Also for out of age 3,2,FIG it is the chance for them to receive individual medals on each piece of apparatus.

Level 5 (IA)

This is one of the more popular levels at the in age section having a total of 21 gymnasts competing in it in total. Coalvilles Lottie Pinchess, Hannah Knox and Maisie Axton were three of them. For all three girls this was there first regional levels competition so it was an experience for them all. Lottie had a confident day showing off her upstarts on the bars which provides a bonus at level 5, she also had a soaring vault which was the required flat back vault on floor she showed the judges her cell block tango dance scoring well beam was a bit wobbly however never let it phase her Lottie came 3rd overall. Hannah competed very confidently also she did not compete her upstarts however had a nice flowing bar routine her vault flew allowing her to score in the 11′s beam like Lottie was a bit wobbly however she then competed her round off flick with bundles of power placing Hannah in 12th. Maisie did a super vault with only 0.1 away from scoring 11, bars she got to show off her upstart on the low bar giving her a bonus, beam was not Maisie’s favourite piece on the day however did not let it get to her and performed a bouncy floor routine placing her 19th.

Level 4 (IA)

There was a total of 11 gymnasts in this category, there is always a few less in this level due to harder requirements. For this level we had Madison Jurkowski and Mae Wilkinson, starting on vault Madison preformed a screamer of a vault which was new this year for the set up scoring in the 12′s which was a brilliant start, moving onto bars she kept her legs tidy and pushed for her handstand on the high bar, beam is every gymnasts nightmare however Madison did link her series but come to grief on landing however shrugged it off and carried on with the rest of her performance. Moving to the floor she showed the judges how powerful she is producing high tumbles and gorgeous leaps! With this performance Madison has secured her place down to national finals finishing in 4th. Mae same as Madison had a new vault to perform and she performed it well, scoring in the 12′s again a brilliant start. Moving onto bars Mae did not reach her handstand but casted up high enough to get a 45o cast counted. Next is beam which is known to be troublesome for Mae, however not today! she stuck the lot! including her backward walkover flick, this was a big moment for Mae and it put a big smile on her face. She then produced a bouncy floor smiling the whole way through as well as performing some big leaps. She like Madison secured her place down national finals coming 3rd, because Mae also competed nationally earlier on in the year at compulsories she will be given a national ranking.

Level 3 (IA)

Level 3 had only 4 gymnasts in it due to Coalville’s Emily Pike getting injured the monday before the competition. Which meant we only had Madison Newell competing in this level. Starting on vault like the level 4′s they had issued a new vault which Madison performed cleanly scoring in the 12′s moving to bars our aim was to get through cleanly which she did, not quite hitting handstand however managed to get through the rest of her routine nailing the landing. Next was beam warm up went great for madison however the nerves hit her for the competition showing 2 unfortunate falls. However Madison is an experienced competitor and it showed, moving to floor she performed a beautiful floor routine with high tumbles and gorgeous leaps Madison come 4th securing her place in the team. Like Mae, Madison competed earlier on in the year at national finals for her compulsory grades meaning she will be given a national ranking from this nationals.

Level 3 (13+)

Due to an injury with Ellie we only had Honor competing in this level with 21 competitors in this category it was a big competition for Honor. Vault is a strong point for Honor as she executes it well and nails her landings scoring in the 11′s this was a good piece for her. Honors bars flowed nicely with her short clear on the bottom bar, again a strong piece for her. Next was beam which is her nightmare of a piece however not today! Honor nailed the beam with little wobbles placing her 2nd on the beam which was brilliant for her. Performing a powerful floor at the end of the competition with her full twist in it more confidently it was a good competition for Honor with an overall placing of 8th.

Level 2 (12/13)

In this level we had 3 gymasts competing, Ebony Birt, Charlotte Abell and Sophie Winfield. Due to injury Ebony only competed on beam and floor. However only competing on the two pieces she made sure she made it count, nailing her beam routine with her tuck back in and good leaps it was a good performance from Ebony. The moving to the floor Ebony got to showcase her new Burlesque floor routine with watered down tumbles to nurse her injury however performing a sky high double twist and a straight front full twist Ebony secured 3rd on this piece of apparatus however only performing two pieces did not get an all around ranking. Charlotte changed her vault on the day as she was not feeling 100% however she performed it well scoring 11.5 which was a good start for her. Charlottes bars flowed nicely with her short clear to handstand straight into sole circle showed a nice fluid routine. Beam like Ebony’s went nice and cleanly for her with no falls it was a good confidence boost for Charlotte. To then finish on floor performing her dreaded full twist cleanly was a brilliant day for Charlotte placing 4th all around. Sophie had a brilliant day performing a good flighted vault, a very fluid bar routine gave her 3rd for that apparatus, she did come to grief on the beam however it did not effect her much finishing with a full twist dismount Sophie finished 3rd on that apparatus too. Finishing on floor Sophie performed a very dancey routine with high tumbles and good leaps giving her an all around position of 3rd.

For Coalville Gymnastics club this was a brilliant competition for all. We hope to carry on the success next year!
